Japanese Gardening in Small Spaces - A Final Word of Advice

The Japanese garden is far from a low maintenance landscape.  Much care is given to keep it's water-loving plants moist, to the pruning and shaping of plants, to the propagation of moss and ground covers, and to the removal of leaves and other decaying matter.  Most of the weeding is tediously done by hand.  However, Japanese gardens are unrivaled in beauty, artistry and impression.  They are well worth the effort, especially in a small garden space where the work is minimal.  Exposing yourself to Japanese gardens over and over through books and visits to local gardens will inspire you and help you settle on a Japanese garden plan that is right for your limited garden space.
